This past March, CITRA team member, Austin Ramirez Pineda, and the University of Georgia’s American Society of Civil Engineering chapter attended the 2024 Southeast ASCE Student Symposium hosted by the University of Central Florida. 19 universities such as Kennesaw State University, University of Florida, and University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez came together to showcase civil engineering students’ ability to apply their knowledge of the field in competitions.
Austin competed in the Student Steel Bridge Competition and the Surveying Competition and supported his peers in competitions like the Concrete Canoe Competition and the GeoWall Competition.
“It was my first time going to conference, and it was wonderful to see the applicability of my studies and the excited spirit that my peers and I had while attending. I was blown away by the performances of other universities, and I plan to work so that UGA competes even better than before next year.”
Austin hopes to continue to get involved with his ASCE chapter, taking lead on the Student Steel Bridge Competition and working to host a successful Southeast Conference planned to be held at the University of Georgia in 2025.
