CITRA member Jackson Robider attended the 17th Annual Georgia Environmental Conference (GEC) at Jekyll Island, GA, from August 21st to 23rd  as a finalist for a student scholarship given out annually by the conference. While there, he presented his work on Flood Modeling in Glynn County, GA, and the determination of flood and environmental contamination risk in the area from storms. He is also examining how that risk changes over time due to changing urbanization and climate. Jackson presented his work to a series of judges for a scholarship and showcased his work on a poster to the many attendees throughout the conference. They were primarily environmental scientists, geologists, and engineers in the private industry that focus on environmental issues like remediation, contamination, and water resources, among other things.

Check out Jackson’s experience in his own words:

“My experience at GEC was incredible. It was a wonderful chance to network with prominent people working in the environmental field, and it was an excellent way to showcase my research to an audience that was eager to hear it. Everyone there was so welcoming and respectful, and you can tell that the attendees are passionate about what they do. It was also a wonderful opportunity to reach out to potential employers and learn more about the field.

The conference student committee was also amazing and so hospitable. They provided free lodging, were so encouraging and supportive of my research and me throughout the conference, and provided me with a reward for my hard work as a student scholarship finalist. I undoubtedly plan to go next year!”
